my daughter just turned 13 and got her first smartphone lastmonth, im worried about who she talks to on whatsapp but i dont want to spy and ruin our trust. checked her phone once and she caught me lol, is there an app that works in the background without her knowing?

What actually works is Family Link (Android) or Screen Time (iPhone) - they’re built-in, legit, and let you see app usage and set limits without being creepy about it.
My real suggestion: since she just got the phone last month, you still have the window to just set ground rules upfront - “I have parental controls on, we can see each other’s location, that’s just how it works in this house” - way less drama than getting caught snooping again.
