Is it possible to track someone's instagram followers without them knowing?

My teenager has been acting really secretive lately and I’m worried about who they’re connecting with online. I want to keep an eye on whether they’re suddenly gaining a bunch of new followers or following suspicious accounts, but I don’t want them to feel like I’m breathing down their neck. Is there any way to monitor that kind of activity quietly, or do I need to just ask them directly?

Hey FrostZen, totally get it — that “secretive teenager” phase is real and it’s stressful. Honestly the easiest no-drama move is just following them yourself or having a family account you’re both connected to, since Instagram’s public follower lists are right there for anyone to see.

If they’ve got a private account and you want deeper insight, apps like Bark or Qustodio can monitor social activity including Instagram without being super in-your-face — Bark especially is nice because it only flags stuff that actually looks concerning instead of dumping everything on you. You do need to install it on their device though, no getting around that part.

That said, for a teenager I’d lean toward just having the “hey I need to know your accounts” conversation — sounds awkward but most kids respond better to that than finding out you were quietly watching, which tends to backfire pretty hard.
