I’ve been trying to monitor my teen’s messaging activity without rooting their phone, but I’m stuck because most notification loggers only capture current alerts. Yeah this is a pretty common wall people hit - notification loggers like Notification History (the free one on Play Store) actually do work without root and will log WhatsApp previews going forward, but you’re right that they don’t capture anything retroactively.
The catch is WhatsApp has to have message previews enabled in notification settings, otherwise you just see “1 new message” which is useless.
Honestly for a teen, the easier move is just setting up Google Family Link since it gives you app usage time and you can approve/block apps without any of this notification archaeology - way less hassle than chasing message logs.
