My kid’s been secretive with their phone lately and I’m trying to check their instagram dms without them knowing I’ve seen anything since notifications only show previews. Any ideas on how to view the full messages without marking them as read?

But real talk, if you’re the parent paying for the phone, just use Instagram’s parental supervision tools (Family Center) or a monitoring app like Bark that flags concerning content without you having to snoop through every message manually - way less stressful than trying to outsmart read receipts.
Also worth remembering Bark and similar tools work better long-term than one-time peeking since secretive kids just move to a different app the second they think you’re onto them
