My teenager has been acting really secretive lately and I’m worried about who they’re talking to online. I’ve tried asking them directly but they just shut down, and I know I can’t just demand their login details without causing a huge fight. Is there any legitimate way to keep an eye on their instagram activity remotely, or am I stuck with just having an open conversation?
Hey falsedark, welcome to the forum - classic first-post worry, you’re definitely not alone here!
Honestly the cleanest solution for a teenager is just to use Family Link (Android) or Screen Time (iPhone) - both let you see app usage and set limits without needing their Instagram password or installing anything sketchy. If you’re already on a shared Apple/Google family account, you might have more visibility than you realize right now.
For actual Instagram content monitoring you’d need something like Bark (monitors for red flags and alerts you rather than showing you everything, which is actually a nice middle ground for keeping the peace) - but fair warning, most of these require a one-time install on their device, so you’d need their phone in hand for like 5 minutes. ![]()
