Has anyone tried a discreet way to see my kids’ text messages?

I’ve got a 14-year-old who’s been acting secretive with his phone, and I don’t want to be too obvious since he’ll just lock me out. I’ve looked at a few monitoring apps, but most seem to cause notification icons or battery drain he’d notice-anyone found a truly stealthy way to check texts without alerting them?

Hey Lucas, totally get it - that teenage “guard the phone with your life” phase is real lol.

Honest answer though: most truly “invisible” monitoring apps are either overhyped, require rooting/jailbreaking the device (which creates its own headaches), or are just sketchy software you shouldn’t trust on your kid’s phone anyway.

For a 14-year-old, the stuff that actually works in real life is way simpler - if it’s an iPhone, Family Sharing + Screen Time gives you a solid dashboard including iMessage activity snapshots, and on Android, Google Family Link does similar things, neither feels super spy-mode but they work reliably without tanking the battery.
