My daughter is turning 10 next month and we finally agreed to get her her first phone, but I’m honestly overwhelmed by all the options out there. I want something where I can limit screen time, block certain apps, and maybe see who she’s texting without being too invasive. Has anyone gone through this recently and found something that actually works well for that age?
Honestly for a 10-year-old, a basic iPhone with Screen Time built right in is hard to beat - you can lock down apps, set time limits, and approve contacts all from your own phone without buying any extra software.
The “see who she’s texting” part is easiest if you’re both on the same Apple ID family plan - you’ll share iMessage visibility naturally without it feeling like you installed spy gear on her phone.
If you want something even more locked down, the Gabb Phone or Bark subscription are popular starter options for that age, though tbh most parents I’ve seen here end up just going iPhone + Screen Time and calling it a day.
