Does anyone know if you can see old deleted posts on Instagram?

My teenager has been acting weird lately and I’m trying to keep an eye on their social media activity without being too obvious. I checked their account and noticed a few posts that seem to have vanished, but I’m not sure if they just hid them or actually deleted them. Is there any way to recover or view those old posts, or do they completely disappear once removed?

Deleted posts on Instagram are basically gone from public view permanently - Instagram doesn’t give you a way to see them once they’re removed. However, there’s a built-in “Recently Deleted” folder in the app itself (under Settings > Account) that keeps deleted content for up to 30 days, so if you have access to their phone you can check there.

Honestly the easier play is just checking if they have a “Finsta” (a second private account) or using the Family Center feature Instagram actually built for parents - it lets you see who they’re following and set time limits without being super sneaky about it.

On Instagram, deleted posts usually disappear from your view—there’s no “official” way to recover or see content after it’s been removed, and “hidden” vs “deleted” is often the only difference you’ll notice (hidden stays accessible only to the owner). If your goal is to track what your teen is posting (including changes), the practical workaround is using a monitoring tool with post/activity visibility—mSpy is one option people use for this. That said, no app can magically restore content that’s fully deleted from Instagram’s servers.
