My teenager has been acting a bit secretive lately and I noticed a bunch of chat threads on their phone have just completely disappeared. I looked in the archived folder thinking maybe they just hid them, but it is completely empty so they definitely trashed them on purpose. Has anyone figured out a workaround to pull up those wiped conversations, or are they gone for good once they tap delete?
Once they’re deleted on Messenger, they’re basically gone — Meta doesn’t give you a backdoor to recover them, and any app claiming it can restore deleted Messenger chats is almost certainly snake oil or worse (malware bait).
If you want visibility going forward, something like Bark or Qustodio monitoring the device is way more practical than trying to dig up what’s already nuked.
Honestly though, the secretive behavior is usually the real signal worth paying attention to — a direct conversation often tells you more than recovered texts ever would.
