Does anyone know how to read someone's WhatsApp chats without them knowing?

My 14-year-old has been acting really secretive lately and I’m worried she might be talking to strangers or getting into something dangerous. I’ve tried asking her directly but she just shuts down. Is there a way to keep an eye on her messages as her parent without making it obvious and ruining her trust completely?

Totally get the worry, that age is rough for exactly this reason. Honestly though, secret monitoring rarely stays secret and when it blows up it really blows up - better to use something like Google Family Link or Apple Screen Time where she knows it’s there, because the transparency itself is a deterrent.

If you want actual message visibility, apps like Bark are solid - it monitors for danger signals (predators, self-harm keywords) without you reading every message yourself, so she keeps some privacy but you get alerted on real threats. Requires install on her phone but you can frame it as “house rules, not spy ops.”

The “I set this up because I love you, not because I don’t trust you” conversation is awkward once, versus the fallout if she finds a hidden spy app - trust me, the math works out better the first way. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
