My teenager has been acting super secretive lately and I swear their phone storage keeps dropping without any obvious apps being deleted. I already checked the app drawer, looked through settings for hidden folders, and even ran a quick scan with a basic security tool, but nothing shows up. Has anyone actually found a reliable way to spot these ghost apps or know if they can be uninstalled from the parent dashboard?
Hey Cameron, yeah this is a pretty common thing with teens right now — there are apps specifically designed to look like calculators or utilities but are actually secret vaults (Calculator+, HideMyApp, etc.), so they won’t show up looking suspicious in the app drawer.
For Android, go to Settings > Apps > Show all apps and sort by install date or storage size — anything weird will stick out fast. On iPhone, check Screen Time > See All Activity which often catches usage even from hidden or disguised apps.
Honestly though, the storage drop is your best clue — just sit down with them and say “hey, I’m seeing weird storage stuff, show me what’s on here” — most kids fold pretty quick when you’re calm and direct about it rather than going full detective mode. ![]()
