Hey everyone, I’m new to the whole parental control thing and just set up Family Link on my 12-year-old’s phone. I can see app usage and location, but is there any way for it to actually let me view the content of their text messages when I’m not right there with the device? I want to know if it’s possible to check what they’re texting without having to physically take their phone each time.
Hey caleb77, welcome to the forum! Short answer: no, Family Link can’t read text message content — it’s mainly for app management, screen time limits, and location, not message snooping.
If you want to see actual texts remotely, you’d need a third-party app like Bark or Qustodio, which do monitor message content but require installation on the kid’s phone first. Honestly for a 12-year-old, Bark is pretty popular around here because it alerts you to concerning stuff rather than just dumping every boring “lol ok” on you. ![]()
