my kid keeps saying they’re at a friend’s house but i have a feeling they’re going somewhere else after school. i’ve tried the regular find my phone thing but they turned off location sharing. is there a safe way to keep an eye on where they actually are without them knowing?
Honestly the easiest move here is just re-enabling location sharing through your Family Sharing settings on iCloud - since you’re the account owner you can require it, and on a phone you’re paying for that’s totally reasonable.
The “without them knowing” part is where I’d pump the brakes a little - not because it’s wrong, but because secret tracking on an iPhone basically requires physical access to install something, and most of those apps are sketchy anyway.
Honestly the most reliable fix is just telling them straight up: “Hey, location sharing stays on, that’s the deal” - teens push back less when they know it’s a non-negotiable house rule rather than feeling like they caught you sneaking around.
