At the time of Launch event, Xiaomi promised that Face Unlock feature will be available via OTA by the end of March 2018.
Now, Proud owners of Redmi Note 5 Pro got their first update around 1.6 GB with some minor improvements and of course the anticipated Face Unlock feature, the same feature that we find on OnePlus 5T.
Interestingly, The Redmi Note 5 Pro is the first Xiaomi smartphone to get the face unlock feature but there is still a good possibility for Xiaomi to push similar Face Unlock feature to other Xiaomi devices too.
“Our face detection algorithm scans facial features in roughly 500 milliseconds using a high accuracy matching mechanism,” said Mani.
The update is available to download, you can manually install the update by going to the Settings > System updates option or by using the Updater app.
How To Set The Face-Unlock On The Redmi Note 5 Pro
- To setup face unlock, go to settings>lock screen and password, then you have to select Add Face Data option.
- Give your pin/password/pattern.
- Look at the phone, it takes a second and recognizes your face.
- All Set!
- Unlock your phone and look at it then face unlock feature activates.
The only con with this feature is it might not able to provide you a better security than a fingerprint reader.
Additionally, with our usage, it failed to unlock the phone because there was not enough lighting, typically your phone’s brightness should be approx 50% to 60% for this feature to work properly.
