If you want to root or flash a custom recovery, the first step is to unlock the bootloader on your LG K20 Plus. Once the bootloader is unlocked, you have the freedom to flash a custom recovery like TWRP, and then custom zips & mods, which is otherwise not possible with a locked bootloader. Fortunately, T-Mobile/MetroPCS are not as restrictive as some other providers when it comes to doing this. Here’s how you can Unlock the Bootloader on LG K20 Plus from T-Mobile or MetroPCS


  • This guide is only intended for the LG K20 Plus (T-mobile model TP260 / MetroPCS model MP260). DO NOT try this if you do have the Verizon model VS501
  • Enable Developer Options on your phone, by going to Settings > About Phone > Software and tapping the Build Number 7 times
  • Then open Settings > Developer Options, and enable OEM Unlock and USB debugging
  • Backup all your important data, as the bootloader unlock process will factory reset the device
  • Download & Install the LG Drivers on your PC – DOWNLOAD
  • Download nano_ADB & extract the zip file to a folder – DOWNLOAD

Unlock the Bootloader on LG K20 Plus

  1. Connect your K20 Plus to your PC
  2. Open the nano_ADB folder. Then Shift + Right click > Open command window here.
    In the command window, type in the following commands one-by-one & hit Enter after each command.
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot devices (This should return a serial code like in the snip below)

fastboot oem unlock (This command will erase all data)

Once the command has finished executing, you can check if your bootloader is unlocked by typing in the following command It should say Unlocked: yes

fastboot getvar locked

Now type in the following command to reboot your K20 Plus

fastboot reboot

Once the phone has booted up, proceed with the setup wizard. Your LG K20 Plus now has an unlocked bootloader and is ready to be flashed with a custom recovery and root. This is how you can Unlock the bootloader on LG K20 Plus (T-mobile/MetroPCS)
