Whether you love the ‘notch’ or hate it with your gut, they are going to become a part of your life.
The year 2018 is clearly ‘The Year of Notches.’ While I’m sad about that maybe you are not!
Yet you cannot tell me with a straight face that there are times when you wished you could hide the darn thing.
Now, the prayers of folks like myself have been answered by one Android developer & XDA member who goes by the handle Zacharee1.
This Android rockstar has put out a free-to-use application called ‘Nacho Notch.’
What does Nacho Notch do?
Nacho Notch simply hides the notch and it works on all devices featuring a notch.
As this year progresses, we will encounter even more phones with notches.
Which devices does Nacho Notch support?
The LG G7, Huawei P20 and P20 Pro, & of course, the most awaited OnePlus 6.
But seeing that almost all Android devices coming out this year, especially the flagships will roll out with a notch, Nacho Notch is a good solution.
Although some OEMs have said that they would embed a similar functionality the Settings, it’s best not to rely on all OEMs to follow the trail.
How to install Nacho Notch
Grab the free app from the Play Store.
- Add the applet to Quick Settings.
- Enable or disable as per wish/need.
Interestingly, the Nacho Notch does not function as an app. Instead, it grabs a spot as a ‘tile’ in the Quick Settings menu.
So, whenever you need to use it, just draw-down the notification shade and press the icon.

How to add Nacho Notch tile to Quick Settings menu?
FYI, you won’t see this tile on your Quick Settings shortcut options right off the bat!
To make it appear in the shortcuts menu, you need to use gestures.
Since Android Nougat, swipe gestures have become more common.
- Just swipe down twice from the top of the screen.
- Enter the ‘edit’ mode when you find the ‘pencil’ icon or three vertical dots.
- Now, look for the ‘Hide Notch’ tile.
- Add it to shortcuts by performing the ‘drop & release’ action.
- Then, either press save or tap the back arrow on the upper-left corner.
How to hide display notch
After adding the ‘Hide Notch’ tile to the Quick Settings menu, draw-down the notifications shade one more time.
Once the tile is active, it turns white and text underneath displays “Show Notch.”
To test how it looks, fire open an app.
You should now see the top bar turning into a solid black bar, thus being able to hide display notch with perfection.
Does Nacho Notch work on Notch-less devices too?
To an extent, yes!
On devices running Android 7.0 or above, it would definitely work.
On a notch-less device, it would offer a black status bar throughout the top.
Note: If you are currently using app launchers such as Nova launcher, then the Nacho Notch will override the top bar.
Try this app out and let me know your reaction in the comments.
