Xiaomi recently launched their two new smartphones: Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro.There are loads of confusion around these two devices, which one to buy and most importantly which of the two devices is better for me so, here is our full detailed analysis on Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro.Let’s get started with the most awaited comparison.
Both devices feature the same display of 5.99 inches having FHD+ resolution with 18:9 aspect ratio, on the top of it the glass is protected by an unknown variant of corning gorilla glass protection. The build quality of both the devices is excellent with full metal built.
The only difference design wise is the vertically aligned dual rear camera on the Redmi Note 5 Pro that resembles the iPhone X rear camera placement.
Camera Battle: Redmi Note 5 Vs Redmi Note 5 Pro
Xiaomi’s Redmi Note series always had an above average camera and this situation does not seem to be changed with the New Redmi Note 5, it still packs a 5 MP average front shooter but, Xiaomi has added a LED flash for dark environment selfies. The 12MP rear camera sensor is positioned at the back with an aperture of f/2.2, Camera quality is slightly improved here than what we find on the previous generation Redmi Note 4.
Redmi Note 5 PRO do come with serious improvements in the camera department. There is a combination of 12 MP+5MP, 5MP Samsung sensor that captures depth information and main 12 MP is using sony IMX 486 sensor that is used for normal still images and videography coupled with EIS tech ( electronic image stabilization ) for smoother videos.
The front camera on the Redmi Note 5 Pro is of 20 MP with Sony IMX376 sensor that is far better than redmi note 5’s front 5 mp camera and comes with capabilities of taking AI-based portrait selfies.
The portrait mode on redmi note 5 pro is simply outstanding that works on Xiaomi’s own algorithm known as AI-Based Computing Engine. It makes use of semantic segmentation for more accurate edge detection so that the foreground object remain in focus while the background is blurred out.Sadly, this feature is not present in Redmi Note 5.
Out of the two devices, clearly Redmi Note 5 Pro wins the camera battle.
Performance Battle: Redmi Note 5 Vs Redmi Note 5 Pro
The Redmi Note 5 is still using Snapdragon 625 processor manufactured on a 14nm tech that is battery efficient and provides reasonably good performance, you will not find any stutter on a regular usage and even some high-end games can be played easily on the Redmi note 5.
Xiaomi changed the game by bringing World’s first Snapdragon 636 processor integrated smartphone: “Redmi Note 5 Pro“, the processor is based on kryo microarchitecture which is usually found on Qualcomm’s flagship performance chips.
The Snapdragon 636 SOC is close to the performance of Snapdragon 820 processor, at least on the processing part but we are not considering GPU performance here.
Redmi Note 5 Pro is the fastest phone right now available under Rs 15,000, all thanks to Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor.
Battery And Software
Both devices get power from a huge 4000 mah battery that can last up to 2 days of regular usage. There is a support for fast-charging using Quick Charge 2.0 technology, but Xiaomi hasn’t bundled a quick charger in the retail box.
Both Redmi note 5 and redmi note 5 pro run on MiUi 9 based on Android Nougat 7.1.1.
Which One To Pick And Why?
First and the foremost, if you are on a strict budget of Rs 10,000 then Redmi Note 5 is the perfect choice out there and don’t forget to consider it as a replacement of redmi note 4 with some minor improvements in the rear camera and display, however, if you already own a redmi note 4 then no need to upgrade it.
4GB+64GB is not a good option at all for Rs 11,999, instead, add Rs 2,000 more and get a Redmi Note 5 pro, reasons are listed below.
Best ever Redmi Note Xiaomi has made till date, it packs very good specifications including a super fast and smooth Snapdragon 636 processor, Dual rear camera setup along with an amazing 20 MP selfie camera, for the starting price of Rs 13,999, it is a steal deal for first-time redmi note buyers.
6 GB+64 GB variant is expensive and overpriced in our opinion because why would anyone interested in getting 2 GB ram extra for 2k bucks.
