Xiaomi, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer has started out rolling the Android 8.0 ( Oreo ) to its Xiaomi Mi A1. Back in September, the smartphone launched under Google’s Android one programme with Android 7.1 ( Nougat ). The manufacturer promised to roll an update for Android Oreo in late 2017, and it barely managed to deliver the promise by started the progressive OTA update from December 31.
On their official forums, they released an official post explaining that users first need to install Android Nougat on their smartphone to receive the OTA update to Oreo. The package for the update is around 1107 MB ( almost one GB ) and includes several other security patch and new features.
What’s in new update
This new update brings a bunch of new and exciting features for Xiaomi users. This includes the Picture in Picture mode, background limits, auto fill, new notification dots, and smart text selection.
Xiaomi has also made other improvements like a faster boot time, adaptive app icons etc. You can check whether or not you can download the Android 8.0 update from your Mi A1 device by navigating to Settings > Software updates.
A1 is the first smartphone among the Xiaomi smartphones to receive the Oreo update. Prior to this, the manufacturer announced that it was looking for beta testers to get feedback on its update.
After the update, the smartphone has become an even better option in the under 15k range. The smartphone features a sexy 5.5 inch full HD display with Corning Gorilla glass protection. The smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor and 4gbs of RAM.
Some users have reported that there seem to be some issues with the ambient display and the absence of treble support after the Android Oreo update.
